About CALEO
The Canadian American Law Enforcement Organization (CALEO) was established in 1978 to
provide intelligence support for a series of marine enforcement operations planned for Lake Erie and
Lake Ontario. The original group included senior intelligence officers, investigators and enforcement
officers from the U.S. Coast Guard, R.C.M.P., U.S. Customs, U.S. Border Patrol, Canada Customs,
Ontario Provincial Police, Niagara Regional Police and U.S. Immigration. At the conclusion of these
operations, the group had grown to include several more agencies and it was then decided that the
monthly information/intelligence sharing meetings should continue and topics
beyond marine enforcement would be discussed.

The group remained informal until the mid-1980's when the membership had grown to exceed fifty different law enforcement agencies. To continue to serve the interests of the members and its original goals, CALEO drafted and adopted a constitution. In the1990's CALEO had averaged over 120 individual members per year representing some 85 different law enforcement agencies from southern Ontario, western / central New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania.
CALEO's mandate is to facilitate the networking of law enforcement officers and the sharing of law enforcement intelligence between government law enforcement and regulatory agencies. Our experience over the years has proven that a good working relationship between all these groups is critical. Membership is limited to sworn federal, state/provincial, and municipal/ regional officers,
intelligence case officers, and analysts from law enforcement agencies as defined by our constitution and approved by M.A.G.L.O.C.L.E.N. and C.I.S.O. respectively.

CALEO co-sponsors, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF), the U.S.
Attorney's Office Western District of New York, the Criminal Intelligence Service Ontario (CISO), and the Mid-Atlantic Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network (M.A.G.L.O.C.L.E.N.) An Annual Information Sharing Conference attended by over 200 officers from throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The location for the conference alternates between the U.S. and Canada. In addition to the Quarterly meetings and the annual conference, CALEO hosts an annual member’s summer party, a Christmas Holiday luncheon. CALEO also sponsors an annual golf tournament. Each year CALEO tries to donate to one or more charities on both sides of the border.
CALEO also sponsors two post-secondary school bursaries annually in the US and Canada.
